Soundtrack: “Summer in the City.”

It’s hot. It’s slow. And all I want to do is go on vacation.  Here are 7 things I’ve been doing while my clients are out of town and I’m looking for projects!

  1. Optimize my website:  Biz dev has long been on my mind so no time like the present to optimize my website.  While i’ve found networking to be the single most valuable way to source new business, relying on it 100% is risky.  And now, with AI SEO becoming the default, it’s time to reevaluate my website and sections, headers and tags that AI algorithms will read.
  2. Get Smart: I’m inhaling all the Substacks and media that I subscribe to and don’t always get to such as Evan Shapiro, Breaking and Entering, 1440, Upstarts, Feed Me, Subway Takes, Jimmy Kimmel Live, etc. and I’m reading books, Isola (Allegra Goodman), Trust (Hernan Diaz), Sandwich (Catherine Newman)…
  3. Write this blog:  I’ve been looking for good blog topics, but inevitably I wait too long before writing, and the moment passes me by.   Take Gwyneth’s Astronomer video? How great was that, both as a genius PR move on the part of Astronomer and GP’s willingness to participate. (I’m sure she was paid handsomely, but nonetheless, it does take a sense of humor.) So instead I obsess about the Trump administration and how, each day, the American Constitution becomes less of a bulwark, and our long-held principles of free speech, free assembly, the separation of powers, the separation of church and state become less entrenched and more and more marginalized.
  4. Anticipate:  Get a jump on client work by writing, researching and thinking 🙂 even when they’re on vacation.
  5. Get coffee: Take advantage of the super hip coffee shop down the block and work from there for a change of venue, and a new perspective.
  6. Walk the dogs:  It’s ironic that I want to take them to the park just when they don’t want to go at all.  Too hot.
  7. Go the gym: No good excuse to avoid exercising when all you’re doing is sitting around 🙂
  8. Bake: Peaches, peaches, peaches. I can’t resist.  Because I have way too many to eat, I guess I’ll just have to make me a pie 🙂
